About the atmospheric boundary Layer sub-grid parametrization in global circulation models

We try to clarify the reasons of the still present weakness of Global Circulation and Numerical Weather Forecast models to predict realistic Boundary Layer (BL) states. The objectives of adequate BL parameterization are recalled in the context of climatic studies. We focus on the different scales involved and present state of the art and research trends for global models. We also address the methodological problem of developing an elementary model in a strongly coupled modelling environment.
