Computing an Analysing Turbulent Flows Using Wavelets

Abstract Wavelet methods for modeling and computing two-dimensional turbulent flows are reviewed. An adaptive wavelet method for solving the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations is presented. Numerical results are exposed for the case of a temporally growing mixing layer and for decaying and wavelet-forced turbulence. Perspectives for turbulence modeling and the extention to three dimensions are discussed.
